Choosing an Agentic AI Platform in 2026

Why "best" is the wrong question

Platform comparisons usually rank tools on a single scorecard, which only works if every buyer wants the same thing. They do not. A ten-person consultancy that wants faster proposals and a regulated insurer that wants auditable multi-step processing are not shopping in the same market, even though both would type "best agentic AI platform" into a search box.

The useful question is narrower: does the AI need to act on your systems, or only to help a person write? That single distinction separates the two cheapest categories from the two most capable ones, and it decides most of the rest — permissions, audit, connector work, and the cost of getting it wrong.

The four categories, compared

Prices below are vendor list prices as of August 2026 and change; the vendor pages linked under Sources are authoritative.

Note what the table does not do: it does not score these against each other. A suite-embedded assistant is not a worse agentic workspace — it is a different purchase, with a different failure mode.

Criteria that actually separate platforms

Most published criteria lists are unfalsifiable ("powerful models", "seamless integration"). These are the ones a vendor either can or cannot answer:

1. Where is inference executed, and who are the named sub-processors? Not where the vendor is headquartered.
2. Do customer inputs train models? Ask for the contractual answer, not the marketing one.
3. Can an agent be scoped to a subset of data? If every agent sees everything, permissions are decorative.
4. Is there a per-action audit log? Which agent, on whose behalf, what it read, what it changed, who approved.
5. Which actions require human approval by default? Default matters more than capability; a gate nobody enables is not a control.
6. What happens at contract end? Export format, retention, deletion.
7. Can one workflow use more than one model? This determines whether a model change is a configuration or a migration.

Under GDPR, questions 1 to 4 are not preference items — Articles 5, 30 and 32 make records, minimisation and security of processing obligations of the deploying organisation, whichever platform it buys.

When mAItflow is not the right choice

Four cases where we would point elsewhere:

• You want a single-user chatbot. If nobody needs the AI to reach company systems, an assistant subscription at $20 per user per month is cheaper, simpler and faster to adopt. An agentic workspace is overhead you would not use.
• Your requirement is "AI inside Word and Teams". If the organisation is standardised on Microsoft 365 and the ask is assistance inside those surfaces, Copilot is a smaller change than introducing another platform.
• You need self-hosted open-weights models on your own hardware. mAItflow is operated as a managed European platform; an air-gapped deployment on your own GPUs is a different architecture.
• You need one narrow vertical workflow. A specialist tool for that single process — claims handling, contract review, ticket triage — will usually beat a general workspace on that one process.
